Sporting paradise
Natural diversity means all the sporting activities you could possibly want are available here.
In summer:
Climbing and hiking, rafting and mountain biking, fishing and riding, trekking and glacier walks or golf in Lienz (27 holes/30 km) and Mittersill (18 holes/35 km). The national park region also has the highest number of hours of sunshine in Austria.
In winter:
Extremely modern cable railways and lift facilities lead high up into the snowy world of the three-thousand-metre peaks. No waiting times and optimally maintained, snow-covered pistes. The Großglockner resort of Kals/Matrei is the largest skiing region in East Tyrol and guarantees gifted children as well as experienced adults enjoyable winter sports at a high level. Summit restaurants such as the Adler Lounge at 2,600 m and rustic ski huts are tempting places to stop for a break. Anyone wanting to experience the hidden side of this impressive mountain landscape can enjoy ski touring. The region is acknowledged to be the area with the most impressive touring and ski routes. Snowshoe walking, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, ice-skating and tobogganing are exciting alternatives to Alpine skiing.
